| Abstract: | Una de las fuentes más importantes del pensamiento musical desde finales del siglo XVIII hasta mitad del siglo XIX puede hallarse en los escritos de los novelistas que, dejándose llevar por las impresiones provocadas por la música de su época, plasmaron en sus obras agudas reflexiones sobre el impacto, el significado y la importancia de la misma. Al encontrarse inmersos en el movimiento del Romanticismo y rechazar los intentos de sistematización del arte, estos novelistas escribieron desde el mundo de las emociones, negando los análisis fríos y calculadores de la música, elevándola a ser el arte superior debido a su característica asemántica, pero de gran capacidad expresiva. Henri Beyle (1783-1842), más conocido por el seudónimo de Stendhal, se encuentra en esa línea de escritores que tuvieron varias facetas a lo largo de su producción literaria. Sus obras más conocidas son las novelas Rojo y Negro (1830) y La Cartuja de Parma (1839), que nos muestran la ruptura social que se vivía en Francia al caer la monarquía, además de la contradicción interna de unos personajes atrapados entre los privilegios y la lucha por sobrevivir a los cambios sociales de su tiempo. |
| Description: | One of the most important sources of musical thought from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century can be found in the writings of novelists who, carried away by the impressions provoked by the music of their time, captured in their works acute reflections on its impact, meaning, and importance. Immersed in the Romantic movement and rejecting attempts to systematize art, these novelists wrote from the world of emotions, rejecting cold and calculating analyses of music and elevating it to the status of a superior art form due to its asemantic nature and great expressive power. Henri Beyle (1783-1842), better known by his pseudonym Stendhal, is one of those writers who had various facets throughout his literary production. His best-known works are the novels Red and Black (1830) and The Charterhouse of Parma (1839), which show us the social upheaval that France was experiencing with the fall of the monarchy, as well as the internal contradictions of characters caught between privilege and the struggle to survive the social changes of their time. |
