| Abstract: | La evolución de la sociedad mexicana en los últimos quince años no puede ser totalmente entendido sin hacer referencia al discurso de los glo balización, la política neoliberal y el Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN) en particular. Este acuerdo que rige el comercio relaciones entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá desde enero de 1994 constituye un paradigma en la medida en que sirve como instrumento político que refuerza institucionalmente el comercio preexistente relaciones entre países desarrollados y subdesarrollados bajo condiciones extremadamente asimétricas. Probablemente sea en las zonas rurales de México donde sus efectos se han sentido con más fuerza dada la fuerte lazos de estas regiones con la agricultura, uno de los sectores más impactados por el ajuste estructural y la apertura de fronteras. |
| Description: | The evolution of Mexican society over the last fifteen years cannot be fully understood without making reference to the discourse of glo- balization, neoliberal politics, and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in particular. This agreement that governs trade relations between Mexico, the United States and Canada since January of 1994 constitutes a paradigm insofar as it is serves as a juridical- political instrument that institutionally reinforces pre-existing trade relations between developed and underdeveloped countries under extremely asymmetrical conditions. It is probably in the rural areas of Mexico where its effects have been most strongly felt given the strong ties of these regions to agriculture, one of the sectors most impacted by structural adjustment and the opening of borders. |
