| Abstract: | Los insultos racistas a jugadores Limonenses en el año 2019 entre el partido Limón-San Carlos, en San Carlos durante el mes de abril y los insultos dirigidos al niño de 10 años Maikel McDonald en clásico de liga menor en el mes de setiembre sirven para subrayar el racismo hacia los afrodescendientes en el país de Costa Rica. Este racismo sistémico el cual no se problematiza, es sutil y por lo tanto difícil de erradicar manifestándose de tanto en tanto de forma directa dentro de la Costa Rica del "pura vida". Esta investigación procura demostrar con algunas evidencias históricas y actuales las formas en que se manifiesta el racismo en Costa Rica y cómo navegan los afrodescendientes esta disyuntiva para sobrevivir dentro de esta sociedad. Para este estudio cualitativo se revisaron y analizaron fuentes primarias de discursos e imágenes racistas en algunos periódicos del siglo XX. Durante el mes de junio, del 2019 se aplicaron dos cuestionarios uno a 75 estudiantes universitarios de primer ingreso, muestra que arrojó datos para las siete provincias del país y otra aplicada de forma aleatoria a 10 personas afrocostarricenses de las provincias de San José, Heredia y el Puerto de Limón, además de la recolección de historias orales de dos personas afrocostarricenses. Se pretende con estos cuestionarios e historia oral determinar la prevalencia de los discursos racistas hacia las personas afrodescendientes y como son enfrentadas en este siglo XXI. Con esta investigación se quiere proveer evidencia académica incidiendo con cambios discursivos políticos y educativos. |
| Description: | Racist slurs experienced by Afro-Limonenses football players in 2019 during the game between Limon-San Carlos in the month of April, and the insults directed toward the 10 years old Maikel McDonald in a classic of the little leagues football team during the month of September of the same year highlight the existing racism towards this group in Costa Rica. This subtle systemic racism is unproblematized, making it difficult to eradicate, so often showing its ugly head in overt ways. This qualitative study gives evidence of this racism by analyzing primary sources gathered through oral history and XX century newspapers. Two sets of questionnaire were applied one filled by 75 university students, and another by 10 randomly selected Afro Costa Ricans from the provinces of San José, Heredia and the Port of Limon. Both questionnaires applied during the month of June 2019. It is the hope that the evidence provided by the research will help in changing hegemonic political and educational discourses. |
