with the birth and development of other scientific disciplines that carry behind them a long
development process. However, this has not been an impediment for, throughout the 20th century,
It has positioned itself as a science capable of responding to the demands that society has made of it.
Likewise, it became a benchmark through which it was possible to observe how the
conceptions of health, disease, diagnosis, prognosis and care. At the same time, it allowed us
reflect on the practice of the discipline in specific contexts of application and how
the professionals of the same have been inserted in the institutions, particularly, those of health.
This is the central objective of this chapter, in which a historical journey is made that
part of the recognition of health psychology as a necessary discipline in contexts
hospital then, it looks at the current profile of the health psychologist and how
Higher education institutions are responding to current training requirements
in our days, to then carry out a prospective exercise that allows us to visualize the possible
development routes for professionals in the area.
