| dc.description | The concept of a publisher in the 21st century has different meanings depending on the figure in question, who has had to transition from printed books to digital ones. The history of printing and books has been different in Europe and America due to the colonial context. Unlike the current concept of the publisher as the person in charge of the process of marketing books, in the 16th to 18th centuries they were known as booksellers or printers, subject to certain rules within a social, political, religious, and economic framework. In New Spain, the circuit of book production and consumption was under the monopoly of families of printers who gave birth to the literature of the era. Unlike other viceroyalties, in New Spain a figure other than the printer stood out, namely the person in charge of organizing the works of others. | en_US |
