Resumen:
The overall goal of New Trends Competency English Language Course 1 is to go a little bit further
than levels A1 and A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, one of the most popular
and accepted frameworks for language learning.
New Trends Competency English Language Course Student Book 1 and Reinforcement Book 1 have
been designed according to the goals set forth herein:
i). The systematic and gradual learning of the four basic skills of a language: Speaking, Reading,
Writing, and listening.
ii). The acquisition of knowledge, competencies, and practicality demanded by an ever-increasingly
competitive world.
iii). The acquisition and development of a higher level of mastery of reflection and creativity.
iv). The pondering, learning, and adoption of wisdom learned through reflection and analysis.
The framework of this book consists of five modules, which in turn contain six sections; each section
is sub-divided into six parts:
Part 1 is dedicated to the study and analysis of readings selected according to logical progress.
Part 2 is dedicated to learning and acquiring vocabulary related to the topics in the reading section.
Part 3 is dedicated to the acquisition of grammatical knowledge logically and progressively.
Part 4 is dedicated to writing composition, an essential ability that students must acquire to be
competent in the social, economic, political, and academic realms.
Part 5 is dedicated to listening comprehension, an essential ability for learning to understand people
from the English-speaking world.
Part 6 is dedicated to speaking, one of the essential abilities a student must have to express his/her
ideas, state his/her arguments, and persuade or dissuade to get to where he/she wants to go. This
section will increase students' creativity enormously.
At the end of the speaking section, we include a quote, a saying, or a proverb. We are convinced that
reflecting on and pondering these maxims can help students better understand and appreciate the
world they live in and develop good habits and attitudes towards their fellowmen and the planet.
Furthermore, after section 6, an additional section is added at the end of each module—section 7
deals with the acquisition of phonics, the phonetics of English. Students learn the correct way to
pronounce the Language by identifying and practicing combinations of vowels and consonants.
At the end of section 7, students take a "mastery test" in which performance is assessed on a scale
of 0 to 100
