Resumen:
En esta investigación se estudia desde una perspectiva criminológica la primera novela de
Élmer Mendoza, Un asesino solitario, para analizar el contexto y la psicología de su
protagonista, Jorge Macías, alias el “Yorch”, y así comprender mejor la realidad que
describe la novela. Para analizar el personaje en profundidad, esta tesis tiene como
elementos centrales el estudio del individuo y de su entorno, por lo cual es relevante a
nivel literario, social, humanitario, psicológico y criminológico, enmarcada dentro de un
campo de conceptos centrales sugeridos por autores en el campo de la criminología: los
estudios sobre las conductas criminales y sobre los individuos que las cometen. Para
examinar estas conductas delictivas, se recurre a múltiples disciplinas ya que las causas
criminógenas son multifactoriales: sociológicas, familiares, psicológicas y físicas, tanto del
entorno como del individuo mismo. En primer lugar, antes de pasar a la interpretación
criminológica se establece el “sentido” de la novela para lo cual se cuenta con distintas
herramientas de análisis, en concreto, las teorías narratológicas que permiten determinar y
comprender tanto la historia y el discurso del relato. Una vez determinado los
componentes y la estructura del relato, se procede a realizar un análisis del contexto en el
que la novela se desarrolla y en el que fue escrita, con el fin de precisar las relaciones entre
el relato y sus receptores. Finalmente, los datos obtenidos en la interpretación se utilizan
para trazar un perfil criminológico del personaje y así discernir los factores que motivan
su conducta.

In this investigation, the first novel by Élmer Mendoza, Un asesino solitario, is studied
from a criminological perspective to analyze the context and psychology of its
protagonist, Jorge Macías, aka the “Yorch”, and thus better understand the reality
described by the novel. To analyze the character in depth, this thesis has as central
elements the study of the individual and his environment, so it is relevant at a literary,
social, humanitarian, psychological and criminological level, framed within a field of
central concepts suggested by authors in the field of criminology: studies on criminal
behaviors and on the individuals who commit them. To examine these criminal behaviors,
multiple disciplines are used since the criminogenic causes are multifactorial: sociological,
family, psychological and physical, both of the environment and of the individual himself.
In the first place, before going on to the criminological interpretation, the “meaning” of
the novel is established, for which there are different analysis tools, specifically,
narratological theories that allow determining and understanding both history and the
speech of the story. Once the components and structure of the story have been
determined, an analysis of the context in which the novel is developed and in which it
was written is carried out, in order to specify the relationships between the story and its
recipients. Finally, the data obtained in the interpretation are used to draw a
criminological profile of the character and thus discern the factors that motivate his
behavior.
