The theme of violence towards the female subject is a constant in the Hispanic
American literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. The writer observes his
reality with a critical eye and scrutinizes the socio-cultural and economic
factors that affect individuals. The female character is determined by the
aforementioned and by specific family circumstances, economic and physical
defenselessness usually arises. Patriarchal society defines it and determines it
in its doing, saying and thinking. Beauty, youth and orphanhood are the
aspects that will condemn him to endure violence inside and outside the
family. Some decide to trade with their body because they see no alternative
and one more will face adversity in the midst of the prerevolutionary
maelstrom.
